Google Partners with Malaysian Government to Drive National Digital Transformation Agenda 🤝🏻
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Mar. 21, 2024 – Today, Google reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering Malaysia's digital competitiveness by announcing two strategic initiatives aimed at empowering Malaysian youth with AI skills and enhancing public service delivery through cloud-native, AI-driven productivity tools. These efforts align closely with Malaysia's MADANI Economy Framework, emphasizing digital transformation as a key driver of economic growth.
In the first initiative, Google, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), will provide 500 Google Career Certificate scholarships to 161 institutes of higher learning, enabling students from diverse backgrounds to acquire future-ready skills in artificial intelligence (AI). The second initiative entails equipping 445,000 public officers with Google Workspace tools, in partnership with Jabatan Digital Negara (JDN), to enhance productivity and efficiency across the public sector.
These initiatives stem from a strategic collaboration announced at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting in San Francisco last year, led by Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry. This collaboration focuses on four key areas: advancing digital infrastructure investments, developing cloud-first policies, democratizing digital skills, and promoting responsible AI adoption.
Karan Bhatia, Global Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google, highlighted the significance of these initiatives, stating, "This is a significant step toward creating inclusive growth opportunities for more Malaysians and strengthening the country’s digital advancement—goals that were central to the strategic collaboration we signed with the Government of Malaysia late last year." Bhatia emphasized Malaysia's proactive approach to embracing technology as a catalyst for national competitiveness and driving secure and responsible AI adoption across the public and private sectors.
With these initiatives, Google and the Malaysian government are poised to transform service delivery, empower citizens with digital skills, and drive Malaysia's digital transformation agenda forward.
